STEVE GAINES: NOT IN AN OLD-AGE HOME

1975

Steven Earl Gaines (1949-1977) was born in Seneca, Missouri, and raised in Miami, Oklahoma. At age 15, after getting home from seeing The Beatles in Kansas City, he bugged his dad to buy him a guitar. His first High School band, The Ravens, made their first recording at Sun Records Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. His older sister, Cassie, became a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd's female backup singers, The Honkettes, in 1975, and he joined the band onstage in Kansas City on May 11, 1976. He played on Skynyrd's live album One More From The Road, and on Street Survivors. Gaines and Ronnie Van Zant sang "You Got That Right". On October 20, 1977, a plane carrying the band between shows from Greenville, South Carolina to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, crashed outside of Gillsburg, Mississippi, killing Steve and Cassie Gaines, and Ronnie Van Zant. Steve Gaines was cremated and buried in Orange Park, Florida in 1977, but in 2000 was relocated to an undisclosed location after someone broke into his and Ronnie Van Zant's tombs. The pathetic remnant of Lynyrd Skynyrd now bans the Southern Cross flag when they play live and in the band's imagery, because they don't want to offend The Kike who owns them.

You Got That Right

By Steve Gaines & Ronnie Van Zant

Well I've heard lots of people say
They're gonna settle down.
You don't see their faces
And they don't come around.
Well I'm not that way,
I got to move along.

I like to drink and to dance all night,
Comes to a fix, not afraid to fight.

You got that right!
I said, you got that right!
You sure got that right!

Seems so long I been out on my own,
Travel light, and I'm always alone.
Guess I was born with the travellin' bone.
When my times up, I'll hold my own,
You won't find me in an old folks home.

You got that right
Well you got that right
Said, you got that right
Sure got that right

I tried everything in my life,
Things I like, I try 'em twice.
You got that right!
You sure got that right!

Travellin' around the world, singing my song.
I got to go, Lord I can't stay long.
Here comes that ol' travellin' jones once again.

I like to drink and to dance all night.
Comes to a fix, not afraid to fight.

You got that right!
I said, you got that right!
Well you got that right!
You sure got that right!
