German princess appears in court after alleged incidents at student event

The Saint, March 11, 2014

A German princess has been accused of committing assault, racism and other charges at the student-run Oktoberfest event.

Her Serene Highness Theodora-Louise, Prinzessin zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, who is not a student at the University, appeared at Cupar Sheriff Court yesterday to face charges over incidents alleged to have taken place at the event at Kinkell Byre on Saturday.

The 27-year-old denied all charges against her by summary complaint. She denied acting in a racially aggravated manner and assault. She also faces charges of making threats and offensive and homophobic comments; attempting to stop herself being placed in custody; and shouting, swearing and threatening violence towards police officers. It is also alleged that she shouted and swore at officers at Glenrothes Police Station on 9 March.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: “Police Scotland, Fife Division can confirm that a 27-year-old female German national is in custody following a racist incident at an event near St Andrews on Saturday 8 March 2014.”

Ms Sayn-Wittgenstein was released on bail with a trial fixed for 7 July at Dundee Sheriff Court. A pre-trial hearing will take place on 26 June.

COMMENTS

taywall: Can someone please comment who was there on what happened? Theodora is the coolest chick ever and I can’t fathom how this went down.

Will Burton: Can someone tell “Her Serene Highness” that Germany has been a republic since August 1919 and that former hereditary titles only exist as part of the surname? She is falsely claiming to be a “princess” when that title in her family hasn’t existed for nearly 100 years. Very sad.

tom smith: She doesn’t use her title, the media does.

Taylor Wallace: She actually hates the title and encourages other germans not to use them.

Bavarian princess 'threatened to kill Muslims and called police paedophiles'

Theodora Sayn-Wittgenstein, 27, has pleaded not guilty to eight charges alleged to have been committed at a St Andrews University charity event

By Auslan Cramb, Scottish Correspondent, 11 Mar 2014

A Bavarian princess has appeared in a Scottish court to face a series of charges, including assault and an alleged racist breach of the peace involving remarks about “killing Muslims”.

Theodora Sayn-Wittgenstein, 27, arrived at Cupar Sheriff Court in handcuffs and pleaded not guilty to eight charges alleged to have been committed at a St Andrews University charity event at the weekend.

They include an accusation that she called police paedophiles following an incident at the student-run Oktoberfest, which was held at Kinkell Farm on Saturday night to raise funds for the Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia charity.

Sayn-Wittgenstein, of Bad Lapsag, Bavaria, who had been due to fly home on Sunday, pleaded not guilty to shouting, swearing and threatening violence and two charges of assaulting a man named Damon Creevy.

She also denied acting in a racially aggravated manner towards Farah Hussain by making remarks about killing Muslims, and assaulting Cara Anderson by kicking her on the body, struggling with her and attempting to butt her.

Sayn-Wittgenstein faces another charge of making offensive and homophobic comments towards security staff and struggling violently with police officers.

The final charge alleges that she shouted and swore at officers at Glenrothes Police Station and accused them of being paedophiles.

Douglas Williams, defending, said his client planned to return to Germany while she awaited trial to work with her father in his renewables business.

She was released on bail and a trial date was set in July.

German princess appears in court charged with assaulting three people and shouting anti-Muslim abuse at student Oktoberfest event

Her Serene Highness Theodora-Louise accused of attack near St Andrews

She faces nine charges including acting in a racially aggravated manner

Princess, 27, allegedly made remarks about killing Muslims to a woman

A German princess has appeared in court after allegedly threatening to kill Muslims and calling police officers ‘paedophiles’.

Her Serene Highness Theodora-Louise, Prinzessin zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, is accused of attacking three people at an event near St Andrews, Fife, where she is at university.

The 27-year-old, named on several lists of eligible single princesses, was led in handcuffs into Cupar Sheriff Court. She faces nine charges - including assault and acting in a racially aggravated manner.

The princess - who denies all of the charges - is understood to have been attending a student Oktoberfest event on Saturday, which is aimed at promoting cultural understanding.

She allegedly assaulted a man called Damon Creevy by kicking him and acted in a racially aggravated way towards a woman named Farah Hussain by making remarks about killing Muslims.

The incidents are believed to have taken place at Kinkell Farm, and the princess is also said to have kicked a woman called Cara Anderson, struggled with her and attempted to head-butt her.

At the event, which was raising money for Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia, the princess is alleged to have made offensive and homophobic comments towards security staff.

She also denied charges of shouting, swearing and threatening violence and struggling violently with police officers.

The court heard yesterday that Sayn-Wittgenstein was supposed to return to Germany on Sunday, but had to rearrange her flights.

She was said to have fought against being placed in custody by pushing, shouting, swearing and threatening violence towards officers in a police van.

Then - according to the final charge - she shouted and swore at officers at Glenrothes Police Station on March 9, and accused them of being paedophiles.

The princess appeared in court in handcuffs, having spent the weekend in police cells in Glenrothes.

Defence solicitor Douglas Williams noted the Crown was not opposed to bail, provided the accused could give an address in Britain where she could be contacted. She provided one in London.

Mr Williams said she plans to return to Germany while she awaits trial to work with her father, Prince Ludwig, at his energy renewables business.

She was released on bail with the conditions of appearing at every calling of the case, does not commit any offences while on bail, and does not interfere with witnesses in the case.

She was also ordered not to behave in a manner likely to cause alarm or distress to witnesses. A trial at Dundee Sheriff Court was fixed for July 7.
